(From allgame.com)

Overview: Make tracks and deliver the goods to become a powerful adversary and businessperson in a reincarnation of the classic game, Sid Meier’s Railroads!. Much like the original, this edition of Sid Meier’s Railroads! features the challenge of creating a railroad empire by making something out of nothing during a time period that begins in the early days of steam engines and runs to the modern trains of the 1970s. You begin by selecting one of ten maps in places like England, Germany, and the United States, and then customizing a scenario. Lay tracks to connect cities in the most efficient manner possible, and set stations down in areas that will get the most use. With tracks and stations come the need for trains, and the game offers 30 selections that include the 0-4-0 Planet and the 4-6-6-4 Challenger. If these aren’t to your liking, create your own in the game’s “LocoBuilder.”

Your main profit maker in the beginning is the transportation of people and mail, but as time goes on and 30 different types of industries sprout up, you can choose to haul over 20 goods to their destinations in factories, markets, lumber mills, and more. During all this growth you should keep an eye on your competitors and the market, to make sure your stock price doesn’t drop low enough to become purchasable by rivals. However, keep in mind that when opposing players lose stock value, you can buy them out and inherit their tracks, stations, trains, and industries as well. As your empire grows, the need to split your tracks will arise, and if you don’t want delays caused by waiting trains, you should make this a common practice. The winner is the transport baron with the most stock at the end of the game. Multiplayer action is available over a LAN or through the Internet, in the form of cooperative or competitive play.

Google Talk Available for all

September 30, 2006 at 8:25 am (Internet, Technology, Uncategorized)

Google Talk is no longer available only for Gmail users as earlier and it is now available for all.A quick look at its set of features seems promising, yet we wonder if it will really dominate over other messengers such as Yahoo or a MSN.

Here’s are Google Talk’s set of features apart from easier installation than before.

(From webpronews.com)

Features

• free and crystal clear voice calls to your friends and family anywhere in the world
• transfer files and folders to others
• free voicemail messages
• IM from your BlackBerry

Interesting, but from what I can see and read thus far,the IM users wont quite be shifting to Google Talk yet,but it may actually happen and this move is a step in the right direction. Here’s the link to Google Talk if you want to try it out.

Ebook Revolution or just hype?

September 29, 2006 at 8:38 am (Technology, Uncategorized)

Sony plans on releasing a new device called the Sony Reader capable to storing around 80 ebooks at a time.It has been designed to easily read through the books and manage them,so its being comapared to the Ipod but for books.

(Picture from telegraph.co.uk)

From what Ive heard so far these would be my set of pros and cons on this new technology.

PROS:

a)Easy to manage books, you can carry around 80+ books, something which wouldnt be physically possible.

b)Easy to read books,it woudnt hurt your eyes and would almost be similar to actually reading the book.

c)A variety of books would be available from Sony’s Connect website,so almost any ebook that we wish to read would be available.

CONS

a)Availability:Its supposedly to be out soon in the USA but it would be interesting to see when it actually reaches the rest of the world, specially Asia and Europe.

b)Cost:Costing at 350$,youd seem to wonder if its all worth it when you can just buy books and read them like you always do.

c)The device would run on batteries, although its being said to have a long lifetime before you recharge them,it would be interesting to see if they are a nuisance or not.

Overall I would say its a great technology, but like everything else,it needs time before we can truly get used to it.
