Should O’Leary have been at a bigger club this season?

October 2, 2006 at 4:43 am (Football, Sports, Uncategorized)

Martin O’Leary seems to be the buy of the season for me,that includes any players or managers bought this season. Its quite amazing that almost the same Villa team that had an average performance last season seem to be a rejuvinated side.Shows clearly how much influence a manager and his coaching staff can have on the team.O’Leary seems like a perfect man manager and seems to have a specific tactic set out which the Villa players seem comfortable with and implement with perfection.

What all this makes me think is whether O’Leary should have been at a bigger club (no offense to Villa here),I thought personally that he should have been England Manager if he was up for the job,he would have been the ideal man, although Mclaren has also done pretty well so far. There were other bigger clubs as well that could have gone for O’Leary,Newcastle comes to mind instantly, but they stuck with Roeder which can also be understood.Im a bit confused now with Martin’s future. With Villa now with more finances thanks to the takeover, will Martin O’Neill try making Villa the next Chelsea of English Football or will he try getting a bigger job next season or the season after next using Villa as a launchpad ? Only O’Leary has the definitive answer to this million dollar question.

Too many strikers at Liverpool?

September 30, 2006 at 4:37 am (Football, Liverpool, Sports, Uncategorized)

Liverpool have been back in good form off late, with wins over Newcastle,Tottenham and Galatasaray(hopefully Ive spelt them correctly :p).But in every game we are seeing a different strike pairing and a natural goal scorer like Robbie Fowler is still to feature prominently in the squad. So Im starting to wonder:Are Liverpool having too many options up front?

Someone like Peter Crouch who did so well in the previous game now, could well be dropped to the Bench against Bolton. Not exactly great for the guy’s confidence now is it.The advantage of all this is obviously that incase of an injury crisis with forwards, there will be sufficient backup. But something thats starting to occupy my mind is,could we be seeing one of these strikers leaving in the mid season transfer period?Only time will tell.

What gets your Goat ?

September 29, 2006 at 9:18 am (Cricket, Sports, Uncategorized)

There are many things which we see during a game of Cricket that really bugs us or in other words,”gets our goat”.These may be simple things such as our favorite players not performing well enough on a given day to complex matters such as the recent ball tampering incident which was blown out of proportion.

But if I was asked this question,my answer would be slightly different.Every time I see the presentation ceremony after a game,it somewhat gets my goat. You might be wondering why Im so bothered with the presentation ceremony when there are so many other issues on field during the actual play itself or other offfield issues.

My thoughts are that players who spend so much of their time and energy during the game for their team are deserving of a better amount as prize awards especially in the International Scenario.Just have a look at other sports, the difference in prize money is quite staggering. Also take into consideration a big tournament such as the World Cup with so much money made by the crowds watching the games,I dont think that the Man Of the Series in a tournament as big as this even gets a small share of the revenue generated during the event, although the situation has improved over the past couple of years.Dont you think that the ICC and the sponsors of tournaments should be providing a slightly better amount for the cricketers as well deserved awards for their performances?

Lets hear what you all think of this and also what gets your goat apart from the one’s Ive mentioned, whether it be too few teams playing the game or the sledging aspect in a “Gentelman’s game”.

Corruption in English Football

September 29, 2006 at 4:26 am (Football, Sports, Uncategorized)

Ever since BBC released their TV programme Panorama, there seems to be an unrest among managers in the game.Im happy that all of this has finally been revealed,I think this has been long happening in the English game and people have got away with it several times.Hopefully all these incidents will finally stop such cheating in the game, although its not as serious an issue as the one we saw in Italian Football recently.BBC however seem to be at a loss with clubs forbiding to do exclusive interviews with the channel after all of all.Just what BBC deserve after uncovering the truth.

Here are some interesting articles that I found as interesting reads. Also would like to hear the reader’s opinions on this issue.
